Thirteen members of the  Guyana Police Force (GPF) Regional Division 4 ‘C’ have completed a four-week computer training programme conducted at the Zara Computer Centre on the East Coast of Demerara.

The initiative is part of the government’s plan to improve computer skills in the GPF as it digitises its operations.

Police ranks that successfully completed computer training

According to the GPF, the programme is aimed at improving administrative efficiency and enhancing the overall quality of service delivery.

Through the training, ranks gained skills in preparing documents, managing data, making presentations, and keeping records, all of which are essential for effectively performing police duties in a modern force.

The programme was facilitated by instructors from the Zara Computer Centre, supported by Woman Constable Moore, Sergeant Constable Drennon and Rural Constable Nedd.

Participants received theoretical and practical instruction in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access. At the end of the programme, they were required to sit a final examination.

Ranks who were unsuccessful will receive additional training before re-sitting the assessment.

The computer literacy programme will continue in batches of 30 with full-day sessions held on Fridays over four consecutive weeks. Training will continue until all ranks within the Division are certified as computer literate.
