Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region Six, Ronald Harsawack, last Thursday attended his first Regional Democratic Council meeting in his capacity as Clerk of Council, during which he updated members of the council on measures being implemented across the region in response to possible flooding during the current May/June rainy period.
At the meeting, councillors were informed that the Regional Health Department has strengthened its preparedness efforts to ensure the continued delivery of healthcare services in vulnerable communities.
Health facilities across the region, particularly those in flood-affected and hard-to-reach areas, have been fully stocked with essential medicines and medical supplies to address any health concerns arising from flooding.
The REO reported that health centres have been instructed to maintain adequate stocks of critical drugs and continue surveillance activities to monitor potential outbreaks of waterborne and vector-borne diseases.
Harsawack added that regional authorities are working with Neighbourhood Democratic Councils and other agencies to intensify fogging and mosquito control activities once floodwaters recede, reducing the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses.
Residents are encouraged to report any unusual illness patterns within their communities so that health teams can respond quickly with testing and other necessary interventions.
