Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara,— President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali joined members of Men on Mission (MoM) and private-sector representatives in an overnight effort to rebuild the access bridge to the Save R Kids Children’s Home at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
The team worked through Saturday night and into Sunday morning to complete the project, which would ordinarily take approximately two weeks. The initiative aims to restore access to the facility and support the care and protection of vulnerable children.
Community Partnership at the Centre of the Project
President Ali said the exercise demonstrated how communities could work together to address infrastructure challenges affecting essential institutions.
He encouraged communities across Guyana to collaborate with businesses and other organisations to maintain and improve facilities that provide important services, including children’s homes.
The President noted that while the government continues to invest in major public infrastructure projects, partnerships with private businesses and local communities can help address specific needs more quickly.
Men on Mission Mobilises Support
Members of Men on Mission joined private-sector representatives to carry out the bridge reconstruction. The overnight operation brought together people and resources to accelerate work on infrastructure essential to the children’s home.
By late Saturday evening, the team had progressed to preparations for installing the bridge beams and decking.
The initiative highlights the role community-based cooperation can play in improving access to facilities serving vulnerable groups.
Support for Save R Kids Children’s Home
The reconstruction forms part of efforts to support the Save R Kids Children’s Home, which also receives assistance through First Lady Arya Ali’s A Home for Every Child initiative.
The programme provides support for utilities and other operational needs, helping the facility continue its work caring for children.
The bridge project highlights the importance of maintaining safe and reliable access to institutions that provide care and protection services.
Encouraging Communities to Work Together
President Ali said the initiative could serve as a model for other communities throughout Guyana. By combining volunteer efforts, private-sector participation and local resources, communities can address practical infrastructure needs affecting essential services.
The project also underscores the importance of cooperation between government, businesses and community organisations in supporting social welfare and protecting vulnerable children.
