An Online Tint Waiver Application System was launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Friday, providing a hassle-free platform for individuals, companies, and organisations to apply for tint exemptions.

Applicants can now submit requests, upload required documents, track application status, and download approved waivers.

Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond said the digital platform strengthens transparency. It also improves public access to government services, while supporting enforcement of the new national tint regulations.

It also reduces human bias and increases accountability within the force. When approved, the waiver will be digitally linked to the vehicle’s registration number.

During a traffic stop, officers will be able to input the vehicle’s registration into their system and instantly determine whether a waiver exists.

Meanwhile, under the new regulations, the minimum allowable visible light transmission (VLT) levels are 25 per cent for front side windows and 20 per cent for rear side windows and the rear windscreen.

No tint is permitted on the front windscreen except for a 6-inch visor strip.

The amnesty period ends March 31, 2026, after which the GPF will fully enforce the regulations. Non-compliance will result in a $30,000 fine.

With the full enforcement of the new law quickly approaching, motorists are being encouraged to visit any police station to have their vehicles tested for compliance.

Currently, a total of 47 testing sites are already operational across the country at designated police stations. At these centres, trained certification officers are using fully calibrated tint metres to test vehicles.

The devices were procured with a one-year calibration certificate and will be recalibrated annually through the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) to ensure accuracy.

Person interested in applying for a tint waiver can do so via the portal https://tint.moha.gov.gy.
