As part of the government’s efforts to strengthen community-based tourism in Guyana, the first batch of nine trainees has embarked on a three-month Hospitality Training Residency Programme at the Baganara Island Resort.

The initiative seeks to provide participants with an immersive, hands-on experience in hospitality operations, customer service and industry best practices that will ultimately benefit tourism operations across the country.

Trainees from the Hospitality Residency Training Programme are departing on their journey to the Baganara Island Resort

Through direct exposure to a world-class tourism environment, the trainees will gain practical knowledge in areas such as guest relations, housekeeping, food and beverage services and the operational standards that define quality tourism experiences.

The programme is designed to develop a network of master trainers who will return to their respective community lodges to mentor others and spearhead continuous improvements in service delivery.

The ripple effects of this programme are expected to be far-reaching by investing in human capital and strengthening local capacity to enhance visitor experiences.

The initiative is supported through a collaboration among the Baganara Island Resort, the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Guyana Tourism Authority and the Inter-American Development Bank.

The government remains committed to providing meaningful opportunities that foster sustainable growth and inclusive development as Guyana emerges as a leader in the tourism and hospitality sector.
