    Nikesha Stephen speaks with DPI

Parents expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the Day and Night Care and Early Childhood Development Centre at Anna Catherina in Region Three, which has transformed the quality of children’s lives and eased parents’ responsibilities.

The 24-hour facility assists families with their little ones regardless of the shift they are working. It is part of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Services’ commitment to the safety, security, and comfort of Guyana’s children.

In all smiles, young mother Nikesha Stephen sat down with the Department of Public Information (DPI) on Wednesday, highlighting the “great assistance” she continues to receive from the centre.

The woman is currently completing her bachelor’s degree at the University of Guyana, and recalled her struggles balancing work, school, and caring for her young son.

“It takes a lot off my hands, having to worry about looking after him and having to be at work and also with school.”

    Single mother, Katherine Laya

When Stephen first visited the facility, she was very confident that her son would be safe. Choosing the facility was an easy decision for her.

Katherine Laya expressed her undying gratitude, highlighting that the facility allowed her to work a regular nine-to-five job and brought in a second income through her ‘side hustle.’

“The only challenge that I was facing was my job. I wasn’t working; I was home for three or four months. When I was recommended to the centre, I came and explained my situation, and in three days, I was called to bring him in. I started back working, and it’s been going good,” the single mother noted.

The day and night care centre has been a major help for Laya, who adores her eight-month-old. She urges parents who need assistance to consider registering at the centre.

Alana Boodho said she now has time to embark on new endeavours, thanks to the facility.

“I was a stay-at-home mom and wife, and when my daughter turned one, I found out about the daycare. So my husband and I decided to enrol her in the daycare,” Alana told DPI.
