Visitors flocking to the highly anticipated Rupununi Ranchers Rodeo 2026 will benefit from improved accessibility to the region as government investments in transportation infrastructure continue to transform connectivity to the hinterland.

The annual rodeo, set for the Easter weekend in Lethem, attracts thousands of visitors each year and remains one of Guyana’s largest cultural tourism events, celebrating the rich ranching heritage of the Rupununi savannahs.

In recent years, several initiatives have been implemented to make travel to the region easier and more affordable. Among them is the reduction in airfare to hinterland destinations following upgrades to several airstrips across the country.

Airlines, including Trans Guyana Airways, Roraima Airways, Air Services Limited and Jaggs Aviation, have reduced ticket prices to several interior destinations, improving affordability for travellers heading to communities in the Rupununi.

Meanwhile, upgrades to hinterland airstrips such as the newly rehabilitated airfield in Aishalton are improving safety, reliability and year-round access for residents and visitors alike, strengthening the overall transportation network across Region Nine.

In addition to improvements in air connectivity, major works along the Linden–Lethem road are enhancing ground transportation between the coastland and the Rupununi.

Dozens of new bridges have already been commissioned along the corridor, significantly improving safety and reliability for motorists travelling to Region Nine. The long-term project aims to transform the trail into an all-weather road, reducing travel time and improving year-round access to the region.

These investments are expected to boost tourism and economic activity in the Rupununi, particularly during major events like the Rupununi Ranchers Rodeo.

The Rupununi Ranchers Rodeo 2026 is scheduled for April 3 to 5, featuring traditional competitions such as bull riding, bronco riding, barrel racing and horse racing, alongside cultural performances, local cuisine and craft displays that highlight the unique identity of the Rupununi.
