The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) reported a record 47,726 visitor arrivals in October 2026, a 12.8 per cent increase compared to October 2025, as more people travelled to the country for leisure, business and international events.

The authority noted in a statement that leisure travel accounted for 59 per cent of arrivals, highlighting Guyana’s growing appeal as a destination for visitors seeking to experience its natural attractions, culture and hospitality.

Business travel represented 17 per cent, while the remaining 24 per cent visited for other purposes.

The United States remained the largest source market, accounting for 37.7 per cent of visitors, followed by the Caribbean at 33.9 per cent, Latin America at 9.3 per cent, Canada at 7.1 per cent and Europe at 5.5 per cent.

October’s arrivals also coincided with several major regional and international events hosted in Guyana, including SOTIC, the Bethune Round Table, the Caribbean Shipping Association’s 56th Annual General Meeting, conference and exhibition, and the Global Biodiversity Alliance Conference and Financing Forum.

These events brought visitors from across the region and internationally, providing opportunities for them to experience Guyana while supporting activity within the hospitality, transportation, food and other tourism-related sectors.

Between January and October 2026, Guyana recorded 408,349 visitor arrivals and remains on track to reach its anticipated 500,000 arrivals by the end of the year.
