The flavours and traditions of Guyanese cuisine took centre stage on Sunday as the Guyana Festival 2026 cookout competition gave 12 culinary artist the opportunity to have patrons  experience the country’s rich culinary diversity.

This competition forms part of the ongoing 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations held at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, which brought together cooks, food vendors, and culinary enthusiasts from across the country.

Indira Assing, a local vendor who was apart of the cook out explained that the competition provided an important platform to preserve traditional creole recipes, especially since she only established her business just over a year ago.

“It is very important, because I love cooking, and to see so may different cultures all in one space, I believe it will provide the needed exposure,” she said.

Patrons also engaged directly with cooks to learn more about the preparation methods, ingredients and cultural significance behind many of the dishes on display.

The competition also served as an educational and cultural experience that brought people together through a shared appreciation for food and heritage.

Minister of Tourism, Industry and commerce, Susan Rodrigues, presented trophies and cash prizes to the winning team of the respective ethnic groups.
