Some 3.8 kilometres of roadway in Vriesland, Region Three, have been upgraded to asphalt as part of the government’s efforts to improve road access for residents.
The ministry’s Special Projects Unit (SPU) is executing the project, with works expected to continue along the roadway towards the community of Free and Easy.
SPU’s Head Collin Gittens explained on Saturday that the project was launched after residents complained about the deplorable condition of the carriageway.
He said remedial works were initially carried out to provide immediate relief, but the government later decided to upgrade the road to an asphalt surface.
“We are aiming to complete this project in its entirety within the next three months,” he said.
He also extended an apology to residents for the temporary inconvenience caused by the ongoing works, particularly traffic disruptions.
