The newly established government service centre in Lethem, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) has processed more than 6,000 transactions, allowing residents to access multiple government services without travelling to the city.
The service centre brings together several agencies under one roof, allowing residents to conduct routine government business closer to home.
The facility was officially launched on Saturday by Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally. He was accompanied by Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, and Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Pauline Sukhai.
The Region Nine centre joins a growing network established under the decentralisation drive of President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s administration.

The first centre opened at Leonora, Region Three, in December 2025, followed by facilities at Anna Regina in Region Two, Fort Wellington in Region Five and Port Mourant in Region Six.
Each centre houses agencies such as the General Register Office (GRO), Passport Office, the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Small Business Bureau.
Minister Ally said the initiative aims to ensure that where a person lives no longer determines the quality or accessibility of the government services available to them.
He noted that Bartica will soon get its own service centre, with plans advancing for a facility in Region 10 as government works toward accessible service points in every administrative region.
