Minister within the Ministry of Public Works Madanlall Ramraj has called for the immediate review of the Hague Back Road Project in Region Three after residents raised concerns about repeated delays.
This forms part of the government’s effort to hold contractors accountable to mitigate disruption to residents’ lives.
During a site visit on Saturday, Minister Ramraj expressed disappointment with the contractor’s performance and directed the ministry’s engineers to provide a full assessment of the project.
“We have given this contractor enough time to get these works completed, and at some point, a decision has to be made on what happens next. We cannot continue to inconvenience residents because of delays on a project that directly affects them every single day,” he said.
The review will include documentation on the works completed, outstanding works and the contractor’s proposed plan and timeline for completion.
The review is expected to inform the government’s next course of action on the contract, including how the remaining works will be completed.
The project was awarded to NK Engineering in July 2025 and has a scope of 660 metres of revetment and 1,000 metres of asphalted roadway.
The project was initially expected to be completed by January 2026. An extension was later granted to February, but more than six months after that revised deadline, the works remain unfinished.
At this stage, the revetment component is approximately 71 per cent complete, while the overall project stands at 52 per cent.
