Senior citizens in Guyana will be able to begin stamping and cashing their annual $20,000 transportation vouchers from Wednesday, July 8, at any post office or Ministry of Human Services and Social Security office.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindhya Persaud, who said measures have been put in place to ensure the process is smooth and accessible.

“We have been working hard over the last few days to make sure that you have a seamless process from tomorrow,” she said.

The minister explained that all post offices across Guyana have been equipped with stamps, allowing seniors to both validate and cash their vouchers at the same location.

Minister Persaud stressed that beneficiaries do not need to collect their allowance on the first day, as the process will remain open until November 1, 2026.

She urged senior citizens to avoid forming long queues, reminding them that vouchers can be stamped and redeemed on any day during the period.

“It is an annual grant, so you don’t all have to go tomorrow. The process starts tomorrow and ends on the 1st of November 2026,” she said.

For pensioners who receive their monthly payments through a bank account or MMG, the $20,000 transportation allowance will be paid directly through those existing payment methods.

Vouchers may also be redeemed at approved payment agencies, including MoneyGram, Western Union, and SurePay.

The annual transportation allowance is intended to help older persons meet everyday travel expenses, including transportation to medical appointments, shopping, and visits with relatives.
