Residents of Linden have expressed strong interest in the opportunities that will soon be available through the Guyana Development Bank (GDB) and the government’s expanding skills training programmes, specifically through the Board of Industrial Training (BIT).

Following a community outreach led by Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, along with members of the cabinet on Wednesday at the Watooka Guest House in Region 10, residents showed confidence in the government initiatives that seek to create employment, support entrepreneurship and improve livelihoods.

Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma Griffith, said the imminent launch of the Guyana Development Bank has generated excitement countrywide.

“We are seeing that all over Guyana. Guyanese are excited for what the Guyana Development Bank has to offer,” the minister said.

He encouraged citizens to prepare and take advantage of the opportunities available through the new financial institution.

The Guyana Development Bank will provide affordable financing to support entrepreneurship and business expansion in productive sectors, helping more Guyanese turn business ideas into sustainable enterprises.

Minister Griffith also welcomed the overwhelming interest in programmes offered through BIT, noting that many young people and other residents were eager to access technical and vocational training.

He said participants expressed appreciation for the work already being done while calling for additional opportunities to help more people become skilled, up-skilled and reskilled to meet the demands of the modern workforce.

“A lot of residents came and spoke about the work already being done, but also the interest in expanding it so that our young people can get involved, become skilled, up-skilled, reskilled and transformed,” he said.
