The government is on track to eliminate the housing backlog in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) by the end of 2027 as major investments continue in new housing developments and supporting infrastructure.

During a recent social media address, President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali provided the update to inform the nation that Region 10 had a housing backlog of 3,398 applications as of December 2025.

However, some 2,314 house lots are currently available for allocation, leaving an estimated 1,274 additional lots to be developed to satisfy the remaining demand.

“We are now designing and building infrastructure in various areas in Region 10, and we are confident that by the end of 2027, we’ll be able to clear that backlog,” the president stated.

The announcement forms part of the government’s wider national housing strategy to ensure every eligible Guyanese family has access to homeownership.
