President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has extended greetings to Guyanese at home and in the diaspora, and especially the Muslim community on Youman Nabi, the national holiday marking the birth and life teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
“May this blessed occasion bathe your homes in peace, bind your families in strength, cradle those who weep, and kindle in our nation an inextinguishable flame of hope,” President Ali said in his message posted on his social media page.
The head of state reflected on the Prophet’s legacy as one that reshaped not only Islam but human civilisation itself.
He pointed to values including faith and humility, mercy and compassion, forgiveness and patience, truth and justice, unity and peace.
“The body is one,” he said, recalling the Prophet’s teaching.
“When any limb aches, the whole body aches,” President Ali said.
That teaching, President Ali said, holds particular meaning for Guyana at a time when the nation has been touched by recent MV Barima tragedy.
He further cautioned against letting grief curdle into division.
The presidentsaid, “Sorrow must not become hatred, and tragedy must never become a chisel of division, nor a spark for suspicion, nor a seed for strife.”
He urged citizens to pursue accountability without haste or malice, appealing for unity over discord.
“Seek truth, but without fury. Pursue justice, but without malice. Correct what is broken, but without vengeance,” the president underscored.
