A total of 30 vendors operating along Agriculture Road in Mon Repos on the East Coast of Demerara are scheduled to be relocated on Tuesday to a newly completed market tarmac.

The relocation is necessary to clear areas for the next phase of the wider Agriculture Road Expansion Project.

Lots on the newly completed market tarmac are being identified

This will allow works to proceed efficiently while reducing disruption to motorists, residents and nearby businesses.

Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, on Monday, inspected the tarmac and engaged with the individuals involved in the project’s alignment to finalise arrangements for relocation.

During the walkthrough, residents and vendors were able to view and identify their newly allocated spots, ensuring a transparent and organised transition.

The newly constructed facility will allow vendors to continue operating without interruption.

Following the completion of the relocation phase, the site will be handed over to the Agriculture Road Expansion Project contractor next week for physical construction to commence.

Moreover, the government is moving to establish vending plazas in every Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) countrywide.

The proposed plazas will feature food courts and adequate facilities for vendors, creating spaces that are tourist-friendly, clean, safe, and enjoyable.

The government remains committed to ensuring all vendors are properly accommodated and that their livelihoods are protected as work advances on this key East Coast Demerara development project.
