The government’s investment in a modern, technology-driven Guyana Police Force was highlighted on Wednesday as Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, inspected ongoing works on the new National Security Tower located on Brickdam.

Dr Ashni Singh was performing the duties of Home Affairs Minister.

The senior minister along with Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken and other senior officials paid to site visit of the National Security Tower.

During the inspection, the minister noted that the facility represents far more than a replacement of the former Brickdam Police Station, which was destroyed by fire.

Dr Singh explained that the National Security Tower forms part of the government’s broader investment to modernise the Guyana Police Force through new command centres, expanded transport assets, advanced forensic capabilities, CCTV surveillance, smart traffic management systems and intelligence-led policing.

“This is not just a reconstruction of the old Brickdam Police Station. It is a major investment in building a truly modern police force equipped to meet the requirements of a modern Guyana,” he said.

The minister noted that these investments are enhancing the force’s ability to prevent and investigate crime while improving service delivery to citizens.

The minister also urged the contractors to ensure the project is completed before the end of the year.

“The building has already transformed the landscape of Georgetown, but more importantly, it symbolises the modern police force that we are building for Guyana,” Dr Singh stated.

When completed, the National Security Tower will serve as the Guyana Police Force’s central headquarters, supporting its digital transformation agenda and bringing a range of police services together under one roof to improve operational efficiency and public service needs.

Dr Singh was accompanied by Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, Commander of Regional Police Division 4A, Deputy Commissioner Simon McBean; the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Andre Ally, engineers and representatives of the contracting company.
