Azruddin Mohamed and his father Nazar have been accused by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the FBI of allegedly gold smuggling and money laundering. As a result, they have been sanctioned, preventing American companies, Guyanese businesses, and government institutions from dealing with them and their companies. Those who do business with the Mohameds will be sanctioned and banned from visiting the USA.
The Mohameds were allegedly forced to leave the ExxonMobil offshore project in Guyana, further proving the severity of the accusations. Now, to divert public attention from their OFAC and FBI sanctions, Azruddin Mohamed is allegedly suddenly claiming to be a candidate for the presidency of Guyana.
This move by the Mohameds has become the biggest joke in the country. Azruddin Mohamed has become a clown and a circus entertainer.

Guyanese voters are not foolish to fall for this distraction. The powerful FBI and OFAC have accused Mohamed of serious financial crimes, including money laundering and gold smuggling. If he believes he is innocent, he should go to the U.S. and clear his name, rather than falsely blaming the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) for his downfall.
Why Is Azruddin Mohamed Attacking the PPP?
Mohamed’s real frustration with the PPP stems from the party not supporting their illegal transactions. Furthermore, he reportedly owes nearly $50 million to the Guyanese Revenue Authority (GRA). Separately, Azruddin Mohamed imported many foreign vehicles and had to pay $ 900 million Guyanese dollars to the GRA. Instead of settling his debts, Mohamed tries to mislead the public and create divisions.
Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed are allegedly attempting to sway the 6.8% Muslim population in Guyana against the PPP—still, the vast majority of. Indo-Guyanese voters see through their lies and continue to stand firmly with the PPP leadership.
Furthermore, the Indo-Guyanese community—including Hindus, Muslims, and Christians—remains fully committed to and supportive of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, the party’s General Secretary. The Indo-Guyanese voters understand individuals like Mohameds and Glenn Lall’s primary goal is to divide the Indo-Guyanese electorate. However, their efforts are failing miserably.
Glenn Lall and Azruddin Mohamed must understand that PPP supporters will not be swayed by their antics, and they will not jeopardize Guyana’s economic progress under the leadership of the PPP party government. Their actions show they care only about themselves, not the nation’s or its people’s welfare.
Both PPP and PNC supporters begin seeing through their deception and self-serving motives.
Azruddin Mohamed allegedly plans to enter the upcoming Presidential race.
U.S. sanctions were imposed against the Mohameds for alleged tax evasion and corruption. These are serious crimes in the eyes of the USA’s law enforcement authorities. Instead of addressing these serious allegations with the U.S. authorities, Mohamed chose to vilify the PPP/C Government, attempting to shift blame.
Azruddin Mohamed’s subsequent public relations efforts — donating homes and helping fire victims — seemed more like attempts to salvage his tarnished image with the OFAC and FBI (USA) rather than genuine acts of goodwill. Now, encouraged by opportunists seeking more free donations, Mohamed has been pushed into the political spotlight as a supposed alternative to President Irfaan Ali. This is a laughable issue.
Ultimately, Mohamed’s presidential bid appears more like a desperate attempt to rebuild his reputation than a genuine effort to serve the people of Guyana.

Glenn Lall of Kaieteur News has recently defended Azruddin Mohamed as a potential presidential candidate for Guyana. Interestingly, both Lall and Mohamed are now positioning themselves in the presidential race despite having no established political party to support their bids. Their lack of understanding of Guyana’s political system is evident, and their primary objective seems to be to pull votes away from the PPP and PNC in an attempt to create a minority government.
However, this political maneuver is unlikely to succeed. The people of Guyana understand neither Glenn Lall nor Azruddin Mohamed is fit to lead the country as president. Their efforts focus more on weakening the major parties than offering credible leadership. Rather than wasting the voters’ time with unrealistic ambitions, it would be more fitting for Lall and Mohamed to compete against each other — a spectacle that would undoubtedly become a national joke.
OFAC, the FBI, Nazar, and Azruddin Mohamed: Glenn Lall is not taking these sanctions seriously. No one plays with the new Trump administration. We challenge Glenn Lall to start a business with the Mohameds if he cares so much for them.
Glenn Lall and Azruddin Mohamed attempt to influence Indo-Guyanese voters to turn away from the PPP and Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo. However, the public is aware of their political game. Lall must remember that the sanctions imposed by OFAC and the FBI against Nazar Mohamed and Azruddin Mohamed are not fabrications — they are serious matters backed by credible U.S. authorities. If Glenn Lall ignores this reality, he risks putting himself in a precarious position.

No one in Guyana can afford to challenge the U.S. government or its laws without facing serious consequences. Any attempt to undermine such matters will only lead to exposure and embarrassment. All eyes will be on these so-called presidential candidates, Azruddin Mohamed and Glenn Lall. Both lack political understanding and experience that can be taken seriously.
Glenn Lall and the Mohameds share one common political target—Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, Vice President of Guyana and General Secretary of the PPP. However, their attempts to undermine Dr. Jagdeo are futile, as neither can match his immense contributions to Guyana’s economic progress. The history books about Guyana are full of his praise and achievements. Attacking Dr Jagdeo is essentially an attack on the PPP that will backfire. Glenn Lall and Azruddin are political pigmies in front of Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo.
Lall must also be aware that his actions will likely prompt journalists to investigate his past, present, and future. While the public is already familiar with the Mohameds’ troubling history of U.S. sanctions, money laundering, and gold smuggling, Lall’s questionable dealings may allegedly soon come under similar scrutiny. Their misguided attacks on Dr Jagdeo will expose their flaws and further discredit their political ambitions.
The Truth Cannot Be Ignored.
Mohamed and his allies must accept reality—his troubles are unrelated to the PPP government. The FBI and OFAC sanctions result from his actions, not political victimization. Instead of fixing paperwork and playing the victim, Mohamed and his associates should face justice.
There is even a strong possibility that both Mohameds and Mae Thomas could be extradited to the U.S. to answer for their alleged crimes. Even PNC supporters allegedly recognize Nazar and Azaruddin Mohamed as sanctioned gold smugglers, and they, too, refuse to associate with him.
A Final Word
In the eyes of the U.S. government, the FBI, and Guyanese voters, the Mohameds remain sanctioned—a label that will not disappear unless he proves his innocence in a court of law in the USA. Instead of pointing fingers at the PPP, he should take the best action—go to the U.S. and clear their names.
Until then, Azaruddin Mohamed’s attempts at political relevance remain a laughable distraction and a big joke among Guyana’s voters.
