Residents of Pouderoyen were on Monday presented with plans for a modern two-storey market that President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali said will serve as a major economic hub while creating new opportunities for businesses and vendors.

The market will feature more than 140 commercial spaces, a food court, farmers’ market, dedicated vending areas, parking, modern sanitation facilities and waste management systems.

“This market had to be different because this market is an everyday market, and this market must present additional economic opportunities,” President Ali said.

The head of state explained that the facility is being designed to attract visitors beyond traditional market days by hosting cultural activities.

It will provide a space where residents can shop, dine and conduct business throughout the week.

“We want people to come to this market because this market will have the best local food in all of Guyana,” he said, noting that the project will stimulate business growth and strengthen the local economy.

The president said the new market complements the wider transformation taking place in Region Three, with major investments in housing, roads and other infrastructure aimed at supporting long-term development.
