Residents of Mainstay/Whyaka Village will be connected to the national grid within three months after the Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) issued a tender for the project, Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar announced on Friday.

The commitment follows a request made directly to Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo during his Public Day outreach to Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), when residents called for electricity to be extended to the area.
Minister Indar confirmed the development, describing it as evidence of a government that listens to communities and acts on their needs.
“GPL went out to tender. In three months’ time, you’re going to get electricity here,” the minister said in his address at the commissioning of the Anna Regina Airstrip on Friday.
The minister added that the infrastructure projects under the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Administration are driven by requests from the community themselves, rather than being planned without their input.
The project adds to several infrastructure and social development initiatives being implemented across the country since the administration took office in 2020.
