    ─now operational

The first 1.5 megawatts (MW) of additional generation capacity has been installed and is now operational at Bosai Minerals Group’s Linden powerhouse, increasing electricity supply to Linden and Wismar.

The development fulfills part of the government’s commitment to add 3 MW of generation capacity to the mining town, as efforts continue to improve the reliability of electricity in the region.

The Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation said on Monday that the additional capacity came online earlier this morning, increasing Bosai’s power supply to Linden and Wismar from 14MW to 15.5MW.

Work is ongoing to bring the remaining 1.5MW into operation, which is expected to increase Bosai’s total generation capacity supplied to the two communities to approximately 17MW.

The ministry said it remains committed to working with all partners, including Bosai Minerals Group (Guyana) Inc., the Hinterland Electrification Company Inc. (HECI), and other suppliers, to ensure Linden receives an adequate and reliable electricity supply.

As part of those efforts, Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar said arrangements are also underway to transport three 1MW generating sets from a manganese company in Port Kaituma to Linden.

The additional generation capacity is expected to further strengthen the electricity supply in Linden and Wismar as the government continues to address the power needs of the mining community.
