The World is witnessing the tragic and concerning situation in Gaza, with a high number of Palestinian civilian casualties (over 1000), including children and women, due to Israeli airstrikes on the Jabalia refugee camp. Israel used 5000-pound US GBU 28 bunker-buster laser-guided bombs to bomb the civilians.
This kind of conflict and loss of life is profoundly distressing and raises many humanitarian concerns. It’s important to note that this information appears to be from a specific source or report, and it may not reflect the most up-to-date or comprehensive understanding of the situation on the ground.
In any conflict, it is essential to prioritize the protection of civilians and adhere to international humanitarian laws. The use of large bombs and indiscriminate bombing, as mentioned in the report, can indeed be considered war crimes if they result in disproportionate and unnecessary harm to civilian populations.
For the most current and accurate information on the situation in Gaza and other conflict zones, it is advisable to refer to multiple reliable news sources, international organizations, and official statements from governments and the United Nations.
“Given the high number of civilian casualties [and] the scale of destruction following Israeli air strikes on Jabalia refugee camp, we have serious concerns that these are disproportionate attacks that could amount to war crimes,” the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights wrote on X.
In a post on her Instagram account, American actress Angelina Jolie expressed her concerns about Israel’s use of bunker-buster bombs in residential areas. She lamented that Gaza was rapidly turning into a site of mass casualties. She also pointed a finger at world leaders, accusing them of complicity in these tragic events.
“This is the deliberate bombing of a trapped population who have nowhere to flee. Gaza has been an open-air prison for nearly two decades and is fast becoming a mass grave. 40% of those killed are innocent children. Whole families are being murdered. While the world watches and with the active support of many governments, millions of Palestinian civilians – children, women, and families – are being collectively punished and dehumanized, all while being deprived of food, medicine, and humanitarian aid against international law. By refusing to demand a humanitarian ceasefire and blocking the UN Security Council from imposing one on both parties, world leaders are complicit in these crimes,” wrote Jolie.
United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) called the deliberate bombing of Jabaliya camp in Gaza by Israeli bunker-buster bombs, 5000 pounds each, “carnage” and “horrific and appalling.”
The statement of UNICEF said:
“The scenes of carnage coming out of Jabaliya camp in the Gaza Strip following attacks yesterday and again today are horrific and appalling.
“While we do not yet have estimates of the toll the attack has taken on children, people’s homes have been levelled, hundreds injured and killed, with many children reportedly among the casualties.
“These two attacks follow 25 days of ongoing bombardment that have reportedly resulted in more than 3,500 children killed – not including today’s deaths – and over 6,800 children reportedly injured. This would be over 400 children killed or injured per day for 25 straight days. This cannot become the new normal.”
On Wednesday morning, Israeli forces killed three Palestinians. They injured several others, including two who sustained severe injuries, in the Jenin refugee camp located in the northern part of the occupied West Bank’s Jenin area. According to reports from media sources, this incursion was one of the most extensive seen in Jenin, with numerous Israeli military vehicles, armoured bulldozers, and even military helicopters involved in the operation. The soldiers advanced under heavy fire, deployed surveillance, and armed drones, and took over buildings around the refugee camp, using their rooftops as sniper positions.
Additionally, since October 7, the Ministry of Health reports that a significant number of Palestinians have been killed and injured. In the West Bank, 132 Palestinians have been killed and 1,960 wounded. According to the Israeli army, 1,405 Israelis, including women and children, as well as 389 soldiers and police officers, have been killed by various Palestinian militant groups. It’s important to note that these figures represent a tragic and ongoing conflict in the region, and the situation remains highly complex and sensitive.
