Guyana’s nominee for the position of United Nations Secretary-General, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, as she continues to build international support for her candidacy.
During the meeting on Monday at the senator’s office, Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett reaffirmed the importance of principled and effective multilateralism.
She also highlighted the critical role of the secretary-general in upholding the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.
She outlined her vision for a more agile, efficient and effective United Nations that is better equipped to respond to today’s global challenges and the evolving needs of member states.
Meanwhile, Senator Dar reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to multilateralism and its unwavering support for the central role of the United Nations in international affairs.
He emphasised the importance of respect for international law, international treaties and the faithful implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The Pakistani foreign minister also underscored the need for reforms that would enable the United Nations to better respond to emerging global challenges.
The engagement forms part of Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett’s diplomatic outreach as she advances her candidacy to become the next Secretary-General of the United Nations.
