In a thrilling match at Eden Gardens during the 2023 World Cup, India faced off against South Africa, resulting in a resounding 243-run victory for the hosts. Virat Kohli marked his 35th birthday with a spectacular century, his 49th in ODI cricket, while Ravindra Jadeja’s five-wicket performance left the South African batting lineup in tatters.

India’s innings, led by Kohli, concluded at 326 for 5. Kohli reached his century by scoring a single off Kagiso Rabada in the 49th over, much to the delight of the packed Eden Gardens crowd. Prior to this match, Kohli had narrowly missed his 49th ODI century during the encounter with Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium.

Kohli’s brilliant 134-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer (77) for the third wicket laid a strong foundation for India. Captain Rohit Sharma provided a flying start with his quick 40 off 24 balls, while contributions from Suryakumar Yadav (22 off 14 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 29 off 15 balls ensured a perfect finish for India.

Ravindra Jadeja’s exceptional five-wicket haul, along with the formidable Indian bowling lineup, proved too much for the South African batters as they were bundled out for just 83 runs. This emphatic victory extended India’s unbeaten run in the tournament. For all the latest updates, stats, and upcoming World Cup fixtures, be sure to visit our special World Cup section.
