The distribution of the Government of Guyana’s Because We Care cash grant for every child registered in the public and private school system begins on Monday.
The cash grant this year is $60,000, along with a uniform grant of $5,000 and a transportation grant of $20,000, amounting to $85,000 per child.
Minister of Education Sonia Parag on Sunday advised parents to familiarise themselves with the distribution schedule and be present to uplift.

She reiterated that the grant will allow children to be properly prepared for school in September.
“ I know that this is going to be of great benefit to you because you want your child or children to be in a position to attend school, ” the education minister said in a social media video.
The education minister explained that there will be teams in every region to ensure the process is seamless.
The increase in the Because We Care cash grant is a manifesto promise of the PPP/C.
Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, solidified the commitment, along with the additional financial support, when he presented the 2026 budget to the National Assembly earlier this year.
Approximately 206,000 families with children in public and private schools are expected to benefit from this increase.
Minister Singh said the grant will place an additional $2 billion of disposable income into the hands of parents.
