Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett has continued her international outreach campaign for the position of United Nations (UN) secretary-general on Monday, presenting her candidature to the President of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph Boakai Snr.

Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett also engaged Liberia’s Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, along with vice and assistant ministers, where she outlined her vision for a more agile, efficient and effective United Nations.

The discussions also focused on strengthening multilateralism, the United Nations’ role in addressing global challenges, and the ongoing UN80 reform deliberations.

She emphasised the need for greater efficiency and stronger impact across the United Nations’ three pillars of peace and security, development, and human rights.

The election for the next United Nations secretary-general is expected to take place in 2027, when the General Assembly appoints the successful candidate upon the recommendation of the Security Council.

The successful candidate will succeed the current secretary-general at the start of January 2027.
