Access road upgrades begin in Mahdia, Campbelltown

Residents of Mahdia and Campbelltown in Region Eight are set to benefit from improved access roads as rehabilitation works get underway following the deployment of a newly procured motor grader.

According to the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, the machine has begun its maiden operation, grading and reshaping sections of the roadway to remove potholes and improve accessibility.

The works come just two months after Regional Executive Officer Marti DeSouza committed to addressing residents’ concerns about the deteriorating condition of the roads, particularly during the rainy season.

The REO said the rehabilitation programme marks the start of a wider initiative to upgrade community access roads across Region Eight.

He explained that additional villages are expected to benefit from the central government’s funding for the maintenance of community roads and bridges.

He noted that while the improved road surface will enhance travel, it may also generate dust, making considerate driving essential for nearby communities.

Also, DeSouza urged motorists to exercise caution as the dry season approaches, encouraging drivers to reduce their speed and be mindful of residents and businesses along the route.
