Residents of Kwakwani are set to benefit from a more reliable electricity supply following the delivery of an 800 KVA generator, which Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips announced will support 24-hour electricity in the community.
The generator was delivered on Tuesday night to Kwakwani, fulfilling a commitment made to residents and providing additional capacity to address power outages.
Speaking during a Cabinet outreach in the community on Wednesday, Prime Minister Phillips said the investment forms part of the government’s continued development agenda for Region Ten, with attention being given to infrastructure and essential services.
“The 800 KVA generator will ensure that we have 24 hours electricity in Kwakwani,” the Prime Minister said.
He recalled that government had previously commissioned a generating set in Kwakwani in 2021 which facilitated a 24-hour electricity supply, but subsequent challenges affected the reliability of the service.
The new generating capacity, he explained, is intended to address those challenges and provide greater stability to the community’s power supply.
Prime Minister Phillips said the investment is one component of a wider development programme being pursued in Kwakwani and across Region Ten.
“Development in Kwakwani, as you know, you are the one who is experiencing the development. It’s not just about roads, it’s not just about electricity,” he said, pointing to improvements in ICT connectivity and public services as other areas receiving government attention.
He noted that government has established ICT hubs in communities and continues to expand internet connectivity, while improvements to health and other public services remain part of the development agenda.
He explained that issues raised during the engagements are being captured in a central database, enabling the relevant ministries to follow up on concerns regardless of whether the responsible minister is physically present at the meeting.
Meanwhile Member of Parliament Sanjeev Datadin said the approach allows government to shape its interventions around the specific needs of each community.
“This, as you well know from the past six years, is President Ali’s style of governance, of bringing the government to the communities so that we can get from you what are your concerns, your desires, and how better we can serve you,” Datadin said.
The Region Ten outreach continues as government officials engage residents across Kwakwani, Ituni, Christianburg, and other communities in Linden, with the objective of identifying priorities and advancing interventions to improve living conditions and support continued development.
