Approximately 80 students of the Waramuri Nursery School in the Moruca sub-district, Region One, are now benefiting from a modern, spacious kitchen facility valued at $6.5 million, funded through a combination of Presidential Grant and Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) funds.

The newly constructed kitchen replaces a small, congested facility that had become inadequate for the school’s growing needs, particularly when preparing and storing meals and educational materials.

Toshao of Waramuri, Vivan Edwards, told the Department of Public Information (DPI) on Thursday that the project emerged from consultations with residents, who unanimously supported the initiative after it was identified as a priority during community meetings.

“The previous kitchen was very small and overcrowded. We recognised the need for a better facility and took the proposal to the community. The support was overwhelming because everyone understood how important it was for our children,” Toshao Vivan explained.

The facility serves not only children from Waramuri but also pupils from neighbouring satellite communities, including Haimacabra, Karaburi and Skyland, making it a significant investment in early childhood education across the wider area.

Constructed within one month, the new kitchen provides a safer, more comfortable and efficient space for food preparation and storage, contributing to an improved learning environment for nursery school pupils.

Residents have welcomed the project, with many expressing satisfaction with the quality of the construction and design.

“Seeing these developments take place in our community gives me a great sense of pride. Every project we complete is an investment in our people’s future and a step towards improving the quality of life for all residents,” Toshao Edwards stated.

Among the projects completed are a school kitchen for the primary school, a pavilion and bleachers, a sanitary block, a guest house, a sewing centre, and a one-kilometre road.

The community is also advancing the construction of a large community centre and supporting residents pursuing technical training to strengthen local capacity.

The toshao noted that these investments continue to transform the village and surrounding satellite communities, creating greater opportunities for residents while improving access to essential services and infrastructure.

Waramuri, home to approximately 2,400 residents, has seen significant development in recent years.
