-cash grant distribution set for June 29
Parents and guardians of children registered in Guyana’s school system will begin receiving the ‘Because We Care’ Cash Grant from June 29, with each eligible child attracting a total of $85,000 in assistance following increases and the introduction of a new transportation grant.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, who said the distribution will commence in all 10 administrative regions across the country.

“As you know, six years ago, when His Excellency took office, he ensured that the because we care cash grant that was taken away from children was restored,” the minister stated. Adding, “it was not only restored but increased over the last five years,” the minister said.
In 2025, the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Government committed to further enhancing the programme during its second term in office.
As a result, the grant has been increased from $50,000 to $60,000, with the uniform grant of $5,000, bringing it to $65,000.
The minister also announced that a new $20,000 transportation grant, another commitment made in 2025, will be added to the existing assistance package.
This brings the total support to $85,000 per child registered in the public or private school system.
This initiative forms part of the government’s broader agenda and will support Guyanese and ensure that quality education is delivered.
