Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) is reminding members of the public that, in accordance with Section 5.4 of the Company’s Standard Terms and Conditions for Electric Services:

“Customers shall not place any structures that would interfere with the proper and safe operation of or access to the Company’s facilities…”

GPL therefore advises that it is illegal and hazardous to erect, attach, place, or install any structure, sign, banner, wire, advertisement, cable, or any other object on GPL’s poles and electrical infrastructure.

Such actions can interfere with the safe operation and maintenance of the electricity network, pose serious risks to public safety, and may result in damage to GPL’s infrastructure or disruption of electricity supply. Unauthorized attachments to utility poles can also expose persons to the risk of severe injury, electrocution, or death.

GPL further advises that any person found engaging in such unauthorized activities will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Members of the public are urged to refrain from interfering with GPL’s facilities and to report any unauthorized attachments or unsafe activities near the network by contacting GPL’s Call Centre on 226-2600 or via WhatsApp on 608-9090.

GPL thanks customers for their cooperation as the company continues to maintain a safe and reliable electricity system.
