President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, has approved the appointment of a new group of Regional Executive Officers (REOs) as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, improve accountability, and enhance public service delivery across Guyana’s 10 administrative regions.
According to a government statement, the newly appointed REOs will work alongside regional administrations, local democratic organs, and community stakeholders to ensure that development projects and essential services are delivered more effectively and efficiently to citizens across the country.
The appointments form part of the administration’s broader vision to build professional, transparent, and people-focused institutions that support inclusive growth and sustainable national development across Guyana.
Last week, President Dr Ali and Vice-President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo held a high-level meeting with Cabinet Ministers, incoming REOs, Permanent Secretaries, Accounting Officers from all regions, and officials from the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board. The government reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and stronger oversight in the public sector.
President Dr Ali reminded public officials that holding office entails a sacred responsibility to the public, emphasising that public funds must always be used to improve citizens’ lives directly and to contribute to national progress.

The Head of State also emphasised the need to maintain transparency across all procurement systems, including regional tender boards, and to ensure strict compliance with the laws and regulations governing public spending.
To modernise oversight systems, the government said it will continue to integrate advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to monitor procurement procedures, improve operational efficiency, and identify irregularities or unethical practices within the system.
President Dr Ali further warned that any violation of procurement and financial regulations, including the misuse of multiple companies to secure contracts, will result in serious penalties, including dismissal from office where necessary.
Vice-President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo also stressed that every state expenditure must be judged by its impact on citizens’ welfare and national development, as the administration intensifies efforts to eliminate waste, strengthen accountability, and improve efficiency and transparency across government operations.
