The Lima Regional Hospital is transforming healthcare delivery in Region Two, providing residents with access to modern facilities, advanced medical technology, and specialised services that were previously unavailable in the region.
Speaking with the Department of Public Information (DPI), Dr Omar Mufett, a general medical practitioner, described the hospital as a major improvement when compared to the facilities that residents had access to the Suddie Public Hospital.
He noted that Lima Hospital is better equipped to meet the growing healthcare demands of the region.
“I would say it is 90 to 100 per cent improvement from where we were at Suddie,” he said.

According to Dr Mufett, the hospital now offers several specialised services that were either limited or unavailable in the past, including urology and enhanced surgical care.
He also highlighted the addition of an emergency operating theatre located within the emergency department, allowing patients requiring urgent surgery to receive immediate treatment.
The doctor explained that neonatal and maternity services have also been significantly improved. The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) now includes a dedicated step-down unit and is located alongside the maternity ward, enabling mothers and newborns to receive care in the same area.

He noted that the hospital’s modern design has also improved the patient experience, with services being more organised, increased privacy for patients and healthcare workers, and a more efficient layout that enhances the delivery of care.
Dr Mufett acknowledged that the Suddie Public Hospital had served Region Two well for many years but said its infrastructure and capacity were no longer adequate to meet the needs of a growing population and an evolving healthcare system.
“Technology has advanced, the population has grown and we are seeing illnesses that we never dealt with regularly before. Suddie’s capacity wasn’t sufficient. This hospital has stepped forward to meet those challenges,” he said.
The Lima Regional Hospital features modern diagnostic equipment, specialised treatment units and expanded clinical services, ensuring residents of Region Two have access to a higher standard of healthcare closer to home.
