Guyana is set to attract global attention at the upcoming Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2026, with President Dr Irfaan Ali leading a high-level national delegation and delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony. The announcement underscores the country’s growing influence in the international energy sector and its expanding role in global development discussions.
Dr Ashni Singh, Senior Minister in the Office of the President responsible for Finance, revealed the development during a preview of the Starting Point podcast. He highlighted that President Ali’s prominent speaking role reflects not only his growing international stature but also Guyana’s emergence as a serious player in the global oil and gas industry.

According to Dr Singh, the significance of this moment lies in the recognition Guyana has earned through sustained engagement and credible leadership. He noted that the country’s inclusion at the highest level of such a prestigious forum demonstrates that global stakeholders now regard Guyana as a nation capable of making meaningful contributions to discussions on energy, sustainability, and economic transformation.
The Offshore Technology Conference, widely regarded as one of the world’s premier gatherings for offshore energy, brings together governments, investors, engineers, and industry leaders to examine advances and challenges in the sector. This year’s event will be held at NRG Park in Houston from 4 to 7 May, with President Ali officially opening the conference.
Reflecting on Guyana’s earlier participation in OTC, Dr Singh highlighted the dramatic shift in the country’s profile. In previous years, Guyana played a relatively modest role, but its rapid transformation into a major offshore oil producer has significantly elevated its standing. Today, being entrusted with the opening address signals how far the nation has progressed in a short period.
He emphasised that such recognition is not coincidental but earned. International audiences, he explained, engage seriously only with countries that demonstrate value, credibility, and a clear vision. Guyana’s growing prominence within the OTC framework, therefore, is a testament to its strategic approach to energy development and to its international partnerships.
President Dr Ali will be accompanied by key members of his government, including Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat, as the delegation seeks to strengthen ties with global energy stakeholders and attract further investment.
Chairman of the OTC Board of Directors, Dan McConnell, described the President’s participation as a notable distinction, highlighting Guyana’s rapid rise as a major offshore oil producer. He noted that the country has quickly established itself as an influential voice in global energy discussions.
Similarly, OTC Executive Director Amanda Rushing said that President Dr Ali’s address is expected to set the tone for the entire conference. The four-day event will include technical sessions, exhibitions, and high-level discussions to advance offshore resource development and innovation.
Guyana’s emergence as a key energy player has already attracted billions of dollars in investment, accelerated infrastructure development, and strengthened collaborations with major international oil companies and technology providers. Its participation at OTC 2026 is expected to showcase these achievements further while reinforcing its role in shaping the future of the global energy landscape.
With thousands of energy professionals from over 100 countries expected to attend, the conference offers Guyana a powerful platform to demonstrate its progress and vision. As President Dr Ali takes centre stage, the country is set to solidify its position as one of the most dynamic and influential new actors in the offshore energy sector.
