The longstanding territorial dispute between Guyana and Venezuela over the Essequibo region has reached new heights as tensions escalate. Guyanese citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations, are united in their resolve to vehemently reject any claims made by Venezuela on their beloved Essequibo territory. The unwavering determination of the Guyanese people to protect their sovereignty and denounce President Maduro’s aggressive stance is prevalent amongst Guyanese in Guyana and abroad.
Before going any further, knowing a little bit about Nicolas Maduro is essential. Maduro allegedly claims that he was of Jewish descent and his ancestors converted to Catholicism in Venezuela. He also allegedly claims that he is a follower of Sai Baba, a Hindu Guru whom Maduro had met numerous times in India when he was foreign minister of Venezuela. He is a keen follower of Sai Baba’s teachings. Whether he has denounced his Catholicism is an open question that he alone can answer. Guyanese need to know about Maduro and his background.
In Guyana, the citizens of Guyana have five powerful political fighters who will never allow an inch of Essequibo to Maduro. They are the President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, Vice-President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo; the Prime Minister, Mark Phillips; the former Vice- President and Foreign Minister, Carl Greenidge, acting now as agent; and the Leader of the Opposition Party, Mr Aubrey Norton. Despite their political differences, Mr. A. Norton is entirely behind the government’s defense against Maduro.
One striking aspect of this dispute is the unity demonstrated by Guyanese citizens across the political spectrum. Despite differences in ideologies, all political parties in Guyana have come together as one formidable force to repel any attempts by Venezuela to encroach upon their territory. This unity sends the international community a powerful message that Guyana is a united front against external aggression.
At the heart of the matter is the unequivocal assertion by the people of Guyana that their country belongs solely to them. The collective sentiment is that no external force, especially one as politically charged as President Maduro’s Venezuela, has any legitimate claim to the territory of Guyana. The Guyanese people are relentlessly committed to defending their borders and protecting their nation’s integrity.
Amidst the rising tensions, there is a direct and unwavering message to President Maduro – Guyana is for the Guyanese. The call is for him to redirect his focus to addressing the needs and concerns of his people rather than pursuing baseless claims against Guyana. The Guyanese people emphasize that Maduro’s efforts should foster internal stability and prosperity rather than engaging in a futile and unjust territorial dispute.
Essequibo is not just a piece of land on the map but an integral part of Guyana’s identity. The people of Guyana adamantly assert that Essequibo is indistinguishable from Guyana itself. Any attempts by Venezuela to claim this region are met with staunch resistance, as the Guyanese people believe that their cultural heritage and national identity are intertwined with the land they call Essequibo.
The Guyanese people are not swayed by President Maduro’s attempts to legitimize his claims through what they term a “gimmick referendum.” They view such actions as an affront to international norms and a blatant disregard for the principles of justice. Guyana is resolute in rejecting any attempts by Venezuela to manipulate the situation for its political gains.
In a bold move, we are launching a global campaign to amplify this message of defiance against Maduro. The campaign will be disseminated across social media platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, and other influential channels. This initiative aims to raise global awareness about Guyana’s stance and garner support for its cause while standing firm against external aggression.
As Guyana faces external pressures regarding the Essequibo region, the united front presented by its people is a testament to its unwavering commitment to sovereignty and self-determination. The collective voice of Guyanese citizens resounds clearly and robustly.
Essequibo is Guyana, and Guyana is for the Guyanese people. President Maduro’s claims are met with defiance, and the international community is urged to stand in solidarity with Guyana against any unjust aggression.
