GOOD INTENT, Guyana — Farmers and residents of Good Intent are expected to see increased government follow-up on community concerns after Agriculture Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture Vikash Ramkissoon met with residents and representatives of several government agencies.

The engagement, held on Tuesday evening, brought technical teams directly into the community, giving farmers an opportunity to highlight challenges affecting agricultural activities while residents raised concerns about essential services and infrastructure.

Representatives from the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA), the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI), the Mahaica/Mahaicony/Abary Agricultural Development Authority (MMA-ADA) and other agencies participated in the discussions.

Minister Ramkissoon said the meeting was intended to move beyond discussion and ensure that issues raised by residents are connected directly to the agencies responsible for addressing them.

He assured residents that the government is prepared to listen to their concerns and work with the community to find practical solutions.

Drainage emerged as one of the major concerns raised by farmers, while residents highlighted issues related to water supply, electricity, infrastructure and street lighting.

Ramkissoon noted that some works are already progressing in the community, including the installation of streetlights. He also said contractors would be expected to correct deficiencies identified in previous works.

The minister further indicated that concerns involving Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), Guyana Power and Light (GPL) and other service providers would be referred to the relevant agencies for follow-up.

As part of the government’s community-engagement approach, Ramkissoon is expected to return to Good Intent on a monthly basis to assess progress, engage residents and monitor the response to issues raised.

The ongoing engagement is aimed at ensuring that concerns affecting farmers, residents and community infrastructure translate into concrete action and timely solutions.
