Georgetown, Guyana — Guyana is advancing major housing infrastructure development in Regions Three and Six through a US$100 million investment supported by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), with plans to construct approximately 90 kilometres of roads alongside drainage and other essential infrastructure.
The Ministry of Housing, through the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), has invited contractors to submit bids for infrastructure development projects at Wales, West Bank Demerara, Region Three, and Moleson Creek and Overwinning in Region Six.
The projects are expected to improve access, support the expansion of housing communities and create better living conditions for residents.

Approximately 90 Kilometres of Roads Planned
The infrastructure programme will cover three major locations, with road construction distributed as follows:
-
Wales, Region Three: Approximately 28.1 kilometres of aggregate surface roads.
-
Moleson Creek, Region Six: Approximately 39.3 kilometres of aggregate surface roads.
-
Overwinning, Region Six: Approximately 22.7 kilometres of aggregate surface roads.
Together, the projects will deliver approximately 90.1 kilometres of new road infrastructure.
In addition to road construction, the works will include earthen drains, reinforced concrete culverts and bridges to improve drainage and accessibility across the housing developments.
Saudi Fund Supports Guyana’s Housing Development Programme
The investment forms part of the Infrastructure Development Works for the Housing Sector Project, financed through a US$100 million loan from the Saudi Fund for Development.
The financing is intended to support the development of housing infrastructure across Guyana, including roads and essential services required to open new residential areas.
The programme is expected to help address growing demand for housing while creating opportunities for construction businesses, workers and other economic activities.
International Bidding Process Launched
The procurement notices for the three infrastructure projects were issued on October 22, 2026.
The contracts will be awarded through International Competitive Bidding (ICB), in accordance with the Saudi Fund for Development’s procurement guidelines.
The CH&PA has invited eligible and qualified contractors to participate in the bidding process.
The submission deadlines are:
-
Moleson Creek and Overwinning, Region Six: January 6, 2027, at 9:00 a.m.
-
Wales, Region Three: January 7, 2027, at 9:00 a.m.

Improved Infrastructure to Support New Communities
The planned road networks and drainage systems are expected to make newly developed residential areas more accessible and suitable for long-term settlement.
Reliable roads will improve movement for residents, construction workers and service providers, while improved drainage infrastructure will help manage water during periods of heavy rainfall.
The projects also form part of the government’s wider housing development programme, which seeks to make additional land available for residential construction and support the growth of communities across the country.
Continued Investment in Guyana’s Housing Sector
The US$100 million programme reflects continued investment in housing infrastructure as Guyana responds to increasing demand for residential properties.
By combining road construction, drainage improvements and other supporting infrastructure, the government aims to prepare additional areas for housing development and improve access to essential services.
The projects at Wales, Moleson Creek and Overwinning are expected to contribute to the expansion of residential communities in Regions Three and Six.
