Vice-President Bharrat Jagdeo met with Indigenous leaders representing communities across Region One (Barima-Waini) at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, for discussions focused on the development needs and priorities of their communities.

The engagement followed the leaders’ departure from the National Toshaos Council Conference in July and created an opportunity for them to raise their concerns directly with the Vice-President and members of Cabinet.

During the meeting, the Indigenous representatives outlined a range of issues affecting their respective communities, with discussions centred on development, infrastructure, services and other priorities requiring government attention. The engagement also provided a platform for the leaders and government officials to exchange views and identify areas where further action and support could be pursued.
