ExxonMobil and its partners have introduced the Errea Wittu, a new FPSO vessel expected to significantly boost Guyana’s oil production and further cement the country’s status as a major global oil producer. As production is set to rise, the Government of Guyana is working with industry stakeholders to ensure that the country and its citizens benefit from the growing petroleum sector, creating greater economic opportunities and improving the standard of living for the people of Guyana.

Guyana is preparing for a major expansion of offshore oil production with the arrival of the Errea Wittu, the country’s fifth and largest Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, which is expected to push national output beyond one million barrels of crude per day.

The vessel, built by MODEC for ExxonMobil’s Uaru development in the Stabroek Block, arrived in Guyana ahead of the planned start-up in the fourth quarter of 2026. The Uaru project has an estimated investment of US$12.7 billion and is expected to deliver more than 800 million barrels of recoverable oil over its production life.

The Government of Guyana and ExxonMobil Guyana separately described the vessel’s arrival as an important step in the ongoing expansion of the country’s petroleum industry.

Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat said the start of Uaru production will mark a significant increase in Guyana’s oil output and bring new responsibilities for the government in managing the growing revenues and economic opportunities generated by the sector.

He stressed that the administration would maintain its commitment to accountability in the management of petroleum income, including ongoing reporting of oil revenues to the National Assembly.

Minister Bharrat also emphasised the need to expand opportunities for Guyanese businesses and workers as offshore production grows. According to the minister, increasing local participation remains a priority to ensure the benefits of the petroleum industry extend beyond oil production itself.

ExxonMobil said the name Errea Wittu translates to “Abundance” in the Warrau language. The company said the name was chosen to recognise Guyana’s Indigenous heritage and to reflect the scale of opportunity associated with the Uaru development.

The company further acknowledged the contributions of Guyanese companies, workers, and professionals to the project, while noting that preparations are now underway to bring the FPSO into production.

The Stabroek Block is already producing roughly 900,000 barrels of crude each day, marking Errea Wittu as a significant development in Guyana’s rapidly expanding offshore industry.

The block is operated by ExxonMobil Guyana Limited, which holds a 45 per cent interest. Chevron holds 30 per cent, and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited holds the remaining 25 per cent.

Once Uaru reaches production, Guyana is expected to enter a new phase of petroleum development, with offshore output exceeding the one-million-barrel-per-day threshold and further strengthening the country’s position as a major emerging oil producer.
