-as the world observes International Youth Day
As Guyana joins the rest of the world in observing International Youth Day, Youths are reminded that they are not only the future but also the now as they play a central role in shaping the country’s development.
Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs, urged young Guyanese to take advantage of the opportunities available to them as they prepare to make meaningful contributions to society.
“Every day young Guyanese are contributing to the development of our country. You are our athletes, you are our entrepreneurs, you are our students, you are our farmers, you are our innovators, you are our professionals and community leaders,” he said.
He stated that the government’s responsibility is to ensure young people have access to opportunities that allow them to develop their talents and reach their full potential.
The government will continue to invest heavily in education, skills training, entrepreneurship, sport, culture and youth development.
Minister Jacobs said, “I want every young person across all 10 administrative regions to know that your government will continue to support you, invest in you and create opportunities for your development.”
The minister urged young Guyanese to approach those opportunities with confidence and determination.
“On this International Youth Day, believe in yourself, prepare yourself and take advantage of the opportunities before you,” he said.
International Youth Day 2026 is observed on August 12, 2026, under the official theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
The United Nations observance highlights how young people’s daily realities are shaped by local environments, while emphasizing their universal goals for dignity, sustainable development, and inclusion.
