The Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation will soon move to issue a public notice directing all telecommunications and utility service providers to remove bundles of hanging wire from poles across the country within six weeks.

The directive came during the Model Village Initiative consultation held at Rose Hall in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) on Saturday, where President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali highlighted leaning, clustered, and improperly aligned poles as a persistent hazard in communities slated for upgrades.

President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali advanced the Model Village Initiative consultations on Saturday in Rose Hall

“It is very unsightly,” he stated to rounds of applause from residents attending the engagement.

Utility crews were also cited for compounding the problem by reinforcing old poles against new ones without full replacement and leaving excavation work incomplete after pipeline repairs.

Pole rehabilitation is expected to form a dedicated phase of the broader infrastructure upgrade under the Model Village Initiative targeting 23 pilot communities including Rose Hall. Part of the undertaking includes replacing, repositioning, and realigning poles to improve safety and the appearance of townships.
