HEART Initiative received $25 million from the Guyana Amazon Warriors franchise and EM Global Super League to support families and survivors affected by the MV Barima Tragedy.

The cheque was presented by Chairman of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League, Sir Clive Lloyd, to representatives of the HEART Initiative shortly before the toss of the Global Super League final between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the San Francisco Unicorns at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, last Saturday.

The initiative expressed its appreciation to GAW franchise and the owner Dr Bobby Ramroop for the timely donation.

This initiative was announced by President Dr Mohammed Irfaan Ali to promote healing and moblise financial assistance needed.

President Ali also clarified that this initiative is not meant to be compensation for the affected individuals.

“This assistance does not constitute compensation for survivors and bereaved families…..These measures embody a commitment that every survivor and their families will be supported,” President Ali said last Monday on his Facebook page.

The donation fulfils a commitment announced by the franchise days before the final to contribute the match proceeds towards relief efforts for those impacted by the maritime tragedy.

The HEART Initiative will provide humanitarian assistance through financial aid to affected families and survivors, psychosocial support, trauma counselling, social services, recovery assistance, as well as spiritual guidance and community support.

HEART is an acronym for Hope, Empathy, Aid, Resilience and Trust.
