The government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Colombia to expand opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, security and cultural exchange.
Speaking at Colombia’s 216th Independence Anniversary celebration at the National Cultural Centre on Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips congratulated the government and people of Colombia.
He underscored the importance of the growing partnership between the two South American nations.
“The opportunities for collaboration between Guyana and Colombia are many, and our government remains committed to strengthening this relationship,” he said.
PM Phillips welcomed the progress made since the reopening of the Colombian Embassy in Georgetown one year ago and the appointment of a resident ambassador.
He stated that the move is a significant step in strengthening diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Colombia’s Ambassador to Guyana, Graybern Livingston Forbes, said the restoration of Colombia’s resident diplomatic presence after more than two decades had reopened an important channel of trust.
