Guyana’s aviation sector continues to experience unprecedented growth, with the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) recording significant increases in international landings, passenger movements, seat availability and cargo volumes between 2020 and 2025.
According to the data, international aircraft landings increased from 1,646 in 2020 to 5,827 in 2025, representing an overall increase of 254 per cent. Landings also grew by 14.6 per cent between 2024 and 2025, reflecting sustained demand for air connectivity.

Data released by the airport demonstrates the country’s expanding role as a regional gateway, supported by strategic investments in infrastructure and policies that continue to strengthen tourism, trade and business.
Passenger movements experienced even stronger growth during the five years. Total passenger traffic climbed from 182,736 in 2020 to 973,016 in 2025, an increase of 432.5 per cent, while passenger movements rose by 13.6 per cent between 2024 and 2025.

The airline expansion services have also translated into greater seat capacity. Available seats increased from 341,506 in 2020 to 1,708,095 in 2025, representing a growth of 400.2 per cent.
Between 2024 and 2025, seat availability expanded by 14.8 per cent, providing travellers with more flight options and improved connectivity.
Cargo operations also continued their upward trajectory as Guyana’s growing economy drove increased trade. Cargo imports and exports rose from 7.66 million kilogrammes in 2020 to 14.43 million kilogrammes in 2025, an increase of 88.5 per cent.
Cargo volumes also increased by 6.3 per cent over the last year.

2020-2025
In a statement accompanying the release of the data, CJIA noted, “Thanks to the visionary leadership of President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the extensive works of the government are actively unlocking Guyana’s vast economic potential. By prioritising large-scale national infrastructure and sustainable policies, the administration has successfully created a robust environment where international trade, business and travel can thrive continuously.”
The airport added that continued investments in the tourism and agricultural sectors are driving higher passenger volumes and cargo capacity, further strengthening Guyana’s connection to international markets and supporting the country’s expanding economy.
