The Government of Guyana has reaffirmed its commitment to regional energy cooperation as Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, delivered remarks at the opening ceremony of the Amazonas Oil, Gas & Energy Expo & Conference 2026 in Manaus.
The three-day conference held in Brazil has united government officials, industry leaders, investors, and policymakers from across the region to explore opportunities in energy development, sustainability, and cross-border cooperation. Minister Indar is leading a Guyanese delegation to the event, signalling the country’s growing influence and strategic role in the regional energy landscape.
In his opening remarks, Minister Indar highlighted Guyana’s rapid transformation into a major energy producer and emphasised the importance of collaboration among Northern South American nations. He stressed that energy integration is not only a pathway to economic growth but also a vital tool for strengthening regional resilience and ensuring long-term sustainability.

Guyana’s emergence as a significant player in the global oil and gas sector has established it as a valuable partner in discussions on energy security and infrastructure development. Minister Indar emphasised that the country remains committed to responsible resource management while also exploring opportunities for shared growth with its neighbours.
During the conference, Minister Indar is expected to participate in a high-level panel discussion centred on “Energy Integration and Cooperation among Northern South American Countries.” The session will examine how nations in the region can collaborate to develop interconnected energy systems, enhance efficiency, and reduce costs through shared infrastructure and coordinated policies.
The panel is also expected to discuss urgent issues such as energy transition, renewable energy integration, and the role of natural gas as a bridge fuel in achieving climate targets. For Guyana, these debates are particularly relevant as the country manages its growing oil production alongside commitments to environmental protection and low-carbon development.
The Amazonas Oil, Gas & Energy Expo & Conference serves as an essential platform for fostering dialogue and building partnerships within the energy sector. For Guyana, participating in such forums underscores a broader strategy to engage regional and international stakeholders and maximise the value of its energy resources.
As the conference advances, Guyana’s presence underscores its goal to lead in shaping the future of energy cooperation in Northern South America—fostering not only national growth but also regional unity and shared prosperity.
