In a significant leadership update, the University of Guyana has announced the appointment of Professor Randolph Persaud as its new Pro Chancellor, following a decision by the institution’s 12th Council. With this appointment, Prof. Persaud will also assume the responsibilities of Acting Chancellor, ensuring a smooth leadership transition until a new Chancellor is officially appointed.

A Distinguished Scholar with a Global Legacy
Professor Persaud offers decades of international academic experience and strategic insight in his new role. With a distinguished career across universities in North America, Europe, and Asia, he is known for intellectual rigor, leadership, and transformative thinking.
He holds advanced degrees in Political Science from York University in Toronto. He has served as Professor Emeritus at American University in Washington, D.C., one of the world’s leading institutions for international affairs. His leadership roles include managing Comparative and Regional Studies at American University and contributing to prominent global think tanks and policy organizations.
In Guyana, Prof. Persaud currently serves as an advisor in the Office of the President, as the director of the National Defence Institute (NDI), and as a teaching fellow at the Institute for Human Resilience and Strategic Security at UG. His return to Guyana, following consistent contributions to national development and academic progress, has highlighted his international service.
