In a powerful display of strength and solidarity, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali led a large crowd of People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) supporters from Freedom House to the Umana Yana on Monday, officially submitting the party’s list of candidates for the upcoming General and Regional Elections scheduled for September 1.
With Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips and Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo and Secretary General of the PPP party by his side, President Ali presented what he proudly called the “winning list” to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), declaring that it reflects the true spirit and diversity of Guyana.
This is the winning list because we know what is on that list; we represent Guyana, every sector, and what is good for Guyana,” President Ali told the media after filing the nomination.

The energetic walk from the PPP/C headquarters on Robb Street to the nomination center was more than a routine task — it was a courageous declaration of purpose. Supporters waved flags, sang party songs, and cheered loudly, celebrating a slate that aims to guide Guyana toward a new era of national progress.
President Ali emphasized the inclusive nature of the candidate list, which covers all demographics and sectors — from young people and women to professionals, farmers, and entrepreneurs.
“We have demonstrated who we are… bringing people together, youth representation, women representation, farmers, professionals, doctors. We bring together all of Guyana, and that is why we are so efficient,” he said, reinforcing the PPP/C’s vision of a unified and representative government.
He also spoke passionately about developing future leaders by providing the next generation with real political experience.
“In our list, you will see that there’s a deliberate effort by the People’s Progressive Party, not only about uniting… but also about preparing the next generation of leaders. This is about giving the next generation exposure and experience… And the only way we can do that… is if we prepare leaders,” President Ali stated.
The president linked the PPP/C’s popularity to its actual performance in office, stating that the support visible on the streets reflected the trust people have in the party’s ability to deliver results.
“So today, this mass movement you see behind the PPP results from a commitment we made—staying true to that promise, upholding our values, and working diligently to ensure that all of Guyana, on a large scale, is represented in the People’s Progressive Party,” he said.
President Ali also urged voters to carefully examine what other political parties are offering, noting that the differences are apparent.
Compare that with the rest… all you’re getting is the same old rhetoric—race, division, and hate. That is all they bring. No policy, nothing transformative. Look at our plan. Our plan goes beyond the norm. It speaks about transforming our country. We are taking Guyana to the next level,” he asserted.
Prime Minister Mark Phillips reiterated the message of progress and stability, describing the upcoming elections as a step toward further development.
September 1st marks the continuation of our focus on development, growth, and keeping our youth at the forefront of leadership and management in Guyana’s progress. Development 2.0, growth 2.0, victory 2.0,” Phillips proclaimed.
Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, who also serves as General Secretary of the PPP, highlighted the inclusion of nearly 30 young candidates under the age of 25, with some as young as 19 years old. He stated this was not just symbolic but part of a larger effort to develop a sustainable leadership pipeline.
The People’s Progressive Party has a proven track record of developing well-planned, sustainable initiatives and implementing them effectively. We have a history of keeping our promises,” Jagdeo said.
He urged citizens to judge leadership by its performance and trustworthiness, rather than slogans or emotional appeals.
“We have experienced people… Look at the man standing here before you [President Ali]. He’s incredibly experienced. And he’s still very young, but highly experienced. He has a proven record of implementing projects. Look at Brigadier [Phillips]. He commanded the army and kept our country safe,” Jagdeo added.
The Vice President stated that the party’s increasing support across all communities and ethnic groups demonstrates that the PPP/C’s message of unity and progress is resonating throughout the country.
The big victory is within reach because we have grown in every community across the country, among all races — everyone is included — and that’s clear. I hope that all of our supporters are working toward that victory, and they are energized now to make it happen,” he said.
In his closing remarks, Jagdeo directly appealed to undecided voters, urging them to break away from old patterns of division and embrace a new era of shared progress.

We work for Guyana, and therefore, to those sitting on the fence, we urge you to let’s show this country we can break this pattern of racial voting. Let’s make 2025 the year when we do that as a nation and move forward together.
“We talk about bringing people together. You saw it at a rally yesterday. The energy that was created has never happened in the history of this country,” he concluded.
With growing confidence and energised supporters, the PPP/C has officially launched its campaign with a clear message: trust, inclusion, and transformation will shape Guyana’s future — and they’re ready to lead the way.
