Fake news, a dangerous tool in the hands of frustrated opponents, is once again rearing its head in Guyana. This insidious tactic, used to gain political advantage, poses a significant threat to our society

So-called journalist Enrico Woolford’s recent post alleging that Guyana’s Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, was escorted and questioned by USA federal agents at JFK airport is a blatant lie. This fabrication not only insults the field of journalism but also deeply offends the citizens of Guyana and the Guyanese diasporas worldwide. It’s a disgraceful act that no one should tolerate.

It is our duty to defend Minister Vikram Bharrat against such baseless attacks. Let me be clear. Woolford has fabricated this story with the apparent intent to cast aspersions on Minister Vikram Bharrat, which constitutes political mischief. However, the more severe offence is his attempt to harm the relationship between Guyana and the United States of America. USA is no fool; they know what Woolford is trying to do. We must stand up against such attempts to tarnish the reputation of our leaders and our country.

Woolford is barking up the wrong tree, and we know now that Minister Vikram Bharrat has instructed his lawyer to take legal action against this alleged fake news creator, Woolford.

Let us now educate this disgruntled journalist.  Woolford must be aware that Minister Bharrat travels on a diplomatic passport, making him an official representative of the Government of Guyana and, therefore, exempt from questioning by any authority.

Diplomats from countries like Iran travel to the United States and globally without such incidents, even amidst conflict. Any such ‘detention and questioning’ would be unprecedented and tantamount to a declaration of hostilities between nations on an unimaginable scale.

The relationship between the USA and Guyana is getting stronger by the day. Why would the USA, according to Woolford, act like that? Nothing like that happened against Minister Vikram Bharrat. This situation exemplifies a big lie to an extreme degree, and the USA must investigate this buffoon called Enrico Woolford, who accused the federal agents of the USA of a false act against Minister Vikram Bharrat.

The pressing question for Guyana’s government is how much leeway should be allowed under the guise of ‘free speech’. Enrico Woolford has overstepped boundaries in the most egregious manner and must be held accountable under Guyana’s laws.

It is crucial to remember that America is our friend and ally, steadfastly supporting us against the threat from Venezuela on our western border. We strongly urge the Government of Guyana to take every possible action to protect our relations with the United States of America. Furthermore, a thorough investigation into Enrico Woolford’s motives for attempting to drive a wedge between our nation and a foreign entity should not be dismissed lightly.

Woolford must be thoroughly interrogated. Unlike others, he regards himself as a journalist and should be fully aware of the consequences of his words and actions.

Enrico Woolford has made the biggest journalistic blunder by spreading fake news against the Minister of Natural Resources, Mr. Vickram Bharrat, to embarrass the PPP government.

The false accusation against Mr. Vikram Bharrat, alleging federal agents in New York questioned him, is believed to be part of a larger conspiracy. We suspect this is a deliberate move to divert attention from Nigel Hughes and ExxonMobil’s conflict of interest issue and create a scandal where there is none. The government needs to investigate whether others hiding behind the scenes instigated this fabricated news against Minister Vikram Bharrat.

Supporters of the opposition parties seem completely frustrated because the PPP party is getting popular in the country, including in Region 4. International bodies will closely monitor the geriatric Hamilton Green General Election rigging advice to the PNC party. Unable to convince the voters and manipulate elections, the PPP’s opponents are now fabricating fake news to gain traction. The Guyanese voters are not stupid. They know the truth about Woolford’s lies against Minister Vikram Bharrat. By fabricating false news against Minister Vikram Bharrat, Woolford has committed political suicide, and he will be remembered as an inventor of fake news from now on. No one will ever take him seriously.

This strategy of using fake news as a political weapon is not only unethical but also harmful to the nation’s diplomatic relations and internal stability. It is imperative that we recognize these tactics for what they are and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

Minister Vikram Bharrat has been a victim of fake news from a narrow-minded so-called journalist, Enrico Woolford. Today, the whole of Guyana knows that Minister Vikram Bharrat is an innocent man, and Woolford created a lie against the Minister. For that lie, Woolford must publicly apologize to the Minister and the Guyanese public and pay colossal compensation for harming Minister Vikram Bharrat’s reputation and dignity.
