Once again, Guyanese are able to learn a critical lifesaving skill through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport’s “Teach Them Young” Learn to Swim Programme.

The annual swimming programme has recommenced, starting on July 13 in Region Five and at the Albion Estate Compound Pool in Region Six.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the programme plays a vital role in identifying and nurturing talent, while preparing young people to represent Guyana at competitive levels.

It also goes beyond sport; the programme delivers far-reaching social and safety benefits, especially in a country where rivers and waterways are central to daily life, and swimming is a critical survival skill.

Participants engage in the Teach Them Young swimming programme

By teaching children to swim at an early age, the initiative directly helps to reduce the risk of drowning and promotes water safety awareness throughout communities.

Additionally, the programme fosters discipline, confidence, and healthy lifestyles among participants.

It provides a safe and structured environment for youth engagement. It also steers young people toward positive activities while strengthening community involvement and national development through sport.

Parents interested in signing up their kids aged 6 to 18 years old can register using the following link https://docs.google.com/…/1FAIpQLSehw9h46gE…/viewform…

Transportation will be provided to and from the Albion public road to the estate compound.
